Emulsifier PDF Print E-mail

The Modified Asphalt Contactorâ„¢ reactor can be employed in the production of neat asphalt (bitumen) / modified asphalt (bitumen) - water emulsions (for both road and building industrial applications).

Regardless of the type of asphalt modifier, if it forms homogenous blend with the asphalt (in order for the finished product to have the desired mechanical and physical properties) it can be emulsified with water by using the Contactor reactor. Current production of this product is accomplished by multiple passes through a colloid mill. Product quality between batches is inconsistent and production time per batch cannot be accurately estimated. Using the Modified Asphalt Contactor reactor, ECOPATH designed a simple batch process that will produce this modified asphalt product. With this process, the product quality will be consistent and production capacity will be increased.

Here is a list of asphalt/bitumen modifiers what could be applied for modified asphalt-water emulsion producing purposes by using the Contactor reactor:

  • partially devulcanized crumb rubber (from ground scrap tires) (CRM)
  • epoxy resins
  • ethylene-methacrylate (EMA)
  • ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM)
  • ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA)
  • ethylene glycidyl acrylate terpolymer (EGA or Elvaloy)
  • hybrid systems (if the polymers dissolve in the bnder)
  • natural rubber (NR)
  • polydiolefins (polybutadiene, polyisoprene)
  • polyethylene (virgin and recycled)
  • polyphosphoric acid (PPA)
  • polypropylene (virgin and recycled)
  • poly-vinyl-cloride (PVC)
  • styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer (SBS - linear and radial)
  • styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR)
  • styrene-isoprene block copolymer (SIS)
